As technology rapidly advances, the semiconductor industry emerges as a crucial engine propelling global innovation and economic growth. In this dynamic and fiercely competitive environment, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) remains steadfast in its pursuit of semiconductor technology.

On November 2, 2023, the NYCU delegation, led by IAIS Dean Yuan-Chen Sun, embarked on a noteworthy academic exchange journey in Tokyo, Japan, during the "Taiwan-Japan Semiconductor Next Generation Development Symposium."The delegation conducted in-depth discussions with SBI Holdings, Japan's largest venture capital group, resulting in fruitful technical exchanges and highlighting NYCU's exceptional standing in the international semiconductor field.

IAIS, established by new regulations (National Key Fields Industry-University Cooperation and Skilled Personnel Training), stands out as a distinctive school within NYCU. With its unique operating model emphasizing collaborative innovation with industry partners, IAIS has significantly enhanced NYCU's position in constructing the semiconductor ecosystem.

During discussions with SBI Holdings, IAIS underscored the importance of talent cultivation and addressed talent supply issues in semiconductor facility site selection. Leveraging IAIS's strength, NYCU is committed to continuing the cultivation of exceptional talent and providing the industry with outstanding technical support.

 

Enhancing Taiwan-Japan Exchanges and Expanding Industry-Academia Cooperation for Advancing Semiconductor Technology

Furthermore, the NYCU delegation participated in discussions with representatives from various Japanese universities, including Professor Fujioka Hiroshi from the University of Tokyo, Professor Takafumi Aoki (Vice President of Tohoku University), Professor Haruichi Kanaya from Kyushu University, and Professor Pham Nam Hai from Tokyo Institute of Technology. The symposium, held at the headquarters of Daiwa Securities Group in Tokyo, aimed to promote industry-academia cooperation.

All representatives unanimously agreed to deepen their collaboration with NYCU, emphasizing the efficient connection of research and development technologies to practical industry applications. NYCU presented practical cases illustrating the successful transition of inventions from academia to cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing applications, including the application of ALD technology in advanced semiconductor manufacturing TEM.

A noteworthy highlight of this event was the longstanding exchange between NYCU and Tohoku University in Japan, initiated in 2005 by signing agreements for academic and student interaction. Vice President Takafumi Aoki of Tohoku University expressed strong support and interest in the IAIS model and NYCU's Taiwan-U.S. Semiconductor Workforce Advancement Program (SWAP). He anticipates further expanding student exchanges and visits, enriching their perspectives and experiences in the semiconductor industry.

Mr. Tsuruta, a representative from the Japanese semiconductor industry with in-depth understanding, firmly acknowledged the importance of the Taiwan-Japan exchange platform proposed by NYCU. He encouraged Japanese universities to take full advantage of the opportunities for collaborative innovation generated with NYCU.

The symposium served as an academic exchange and an opportunity to consolidate the strengths of both parties. Through this deepened Taiwan-Japan exchange, both sides will collaborate to create a brighter future for semiconductor technology, contributing to global technological innovation.
