 The doctoral class in College of Electrical and Computer Engineering was established according to "Project Of Supporting Universities To Cultivate Ph.D. Level Research And Development Talents Through Industry-Academic Cooperation" and "Pilot Project Based On Collages Serving As Core Teaching Units" of Ministry of Education. Students can have admissions into the doctoral class through three channels including "Entrance Examination," "Direct Pursuit of Ph.D. Degree in This University" and "Doctoral Student Transfer." The first channel is to take the Ph.D. student entrance exam and apply for the joint admission channel for College of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the affiliated existing doctoral class. The second channel is to apply for the direct admission to the doctoral class from the master's class while becoming the first grade freshmen in the master's class. The third channel can be reached by the transferred doctoral student, from another affiliated doctoral class of this college, who needs to pass the qualification test of the original doctoral class or this doctoral class within two years from enrollment at the original institute with the consents of the advisor and the director of the original institute.


 The Ph.D. student with the admission to the class needs to apply for "Project Of Cultivating Research And Development The Elite Through Industry-Academic Cooperation" of Ministry of Education with the application data passing the examination of the enterprise, College of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Ministry of Education, and completes the matching with the enterprise.

Cultivation Feature

 This doctoral class was established according to "Project Of Supporting Universities To Cultivate Ph.D. Level Research And Development Talents Through Industry-Academic Cooperation." The purpose is to establish a model of cooperation between domestic industry and academia, to cultivate doctoral talents possessing the industrial perspectives and the highest level research capabilities, and to create the innovative technology directing to the industrial requirements.


 This college actively integrates the needs of industrial development and provides industry forward-looking research results and excellent research and development talents to enhance the industrial competitiveness. For example, enterprises are invited to participate in this college in response to "Enhancement Of Studying For Practical Applications" of Ministry of Education, and the dissertation research is jointly guided by the university and the industry to jointly cultivate the knowledge-action integration research and development capabilities for the Ph.D. students. Regarding the main features, the cooperative enterprise specifies the definite research directions and issues to reduce the knowledge-action difference, the perfect selection mechanism and student counseling mechanism are applied, characteristic industry curriculums are jointly planned with the industry, the close cooperation of industry-academic connection mechanisms are achieved, and industry-academic cooperation projects can be additionally executed based on the research and development results. Such the interaction mechanism of technology research and development between the industry and the university enables the industry to find the top talents so that the talents are stored at the university, the next generation technology is contained at the university, and the university takes root for the industry. Meanwhile, the education of the university can be extended using the talent cultivation resources and facilities in the industry and research community.

Future Developmen

 The trend of globalization has made competition among international industries become increasingly fierce, and emerging countries have also begun to attach importance to the technology industry and actively invest in relevant technology development. Taiwan’s technology industry needs to face the challenges of strategic and technological advantages of leading developed countries, such as Europe, the United States, Japan and South Korea, to face the pressures of the following emerging countries, and to directly face the unprecedented challenges. Either a large company or a new venture has the talent demand changing from the low labor cost and one single technical manpower to the extreme eagerness for the talents in the forward-looking research and development (top technology innovation and cross-field technology integration and innovation), the overall system development (industry design and system technology integration), product definition and market management.


 In the future, the doctoral class of this college will continuously strengthen the research and development of the large-scale industry-academic cooperation in electronic, electrical engineering, opto-electronic and bio-med fields, integrate the powerful fields of the existing departments of College of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and also consider the extremely needed new technology in the upgrading of the domestic industry and the new venture to achieve the win-win condition between the domestic industry and the academia.

 At present, the international competitiveness of Taiwan's industry obviously relies on the innovative technology and knowledge nutrients, so that Taiwan can keep the power for constantly advancing the industry. Many industries have encountered the gap in high-level doctoral talents, and urgently need the collection of a large number of high-level talents to initiate and enhance its industrial competitiveness thereof.


 College of Electrical and Computer Engineering at  National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University is a leading organization for the research and development of technology in the field of the domestic electrical and computer engineering, and will cultivate the high-level research talents for the above-mentioned national industries.
